Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

Here are some of the frequently asked questions (FAQ) about learning Thai but if you cannot find the answer you are looking for,
please do not hesitate to contact us:

1. What language are the courses taught in?

Our Thai classes are taught in English with the course books written in Thai and English with phonetic examples. Our English classes are conducted fully in English although all of our English teachers have a basic understanding of many languages. Our German classes are conducted in German with some understanding of Thai and the Italian classes are conducted in both Italian and English.

2. What qualification do the teachers have?

All teachers at Mind Your Language have either many years of experience in teaching Thai to foreigners or have a university degree in teaching languages to foreigners.

3. How many times a week do I need to study?

Our group classes run for 2 hours per day and for either 2, 3 or 4 days per week. All classes start at either 9am, 11am, 2pm, 4pm or 6pm. Private tuition can be arranged for any day but still within these time slots.  Ed visa students must now study for 4 days or 8 hours per week.

4. Will I need to do homework?

There is no mandatory homework assigned but we encourage students to use what they have learned in the classroom in their everyday activities.

5. What happens if I need to cancel or miss a lesson?

We require 24 hours notice if you need to cancel a lesson so that we are able to reschedule. A no show will result in the lesson being marked as missed and deducted from your course.

6. What happens if I need to cancel my course?

If you need to cancel your course we need at least 7 days notice prior to the start of your course to apply your deposit to a future course. A future course must be scheduled within 60 days of the start of your cancelled course.

7. How far in advance do I need to book?

You can book as far ahead as you like. Please email us with your arrival dates and we will advise you of the next course start dates.

8. Do I need to pay a deposit?

Yes, we prefer you to pay a 50% deposit and to complete an enrollment form at the time of booking. Full payment is due on day one of the course. Deposits are valid for 60 days – courses must be confirmed & full payment received within this period. Students requiring the ED visa must pay 50% on completion of documents with the remaining 50% payable on collection of visa papers before going to the Embassy/Consulate of your choice.

9. Can I pay online?

All fees can be paid by cash in the schools, by Paypal (please add 5% for additional fees) or by direct transfer to our bank account, details of which will be supplied if/when necessary.

10. Do I need to do any preparation for the course?

It is a good idea to buy a Thai – English dictionary and to familiarise yourself with the vocabulary. We recommend you buy the Benjawan Poomsen Becker dictionary as our experience has been that it is very informative and is similar to our teachings of phonetics.

11. What do I need to bring on the first day?
