It seems the Mind Your Language Team has the experience and the tools to push the students forward – Reviewed by Martin Geifman

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Started the 2 Weeks to Speak Intensive Thai language course today at Mind Your Language. Teacher Jom and his two assistants were very patient as they put us through the linguistic gymnastics involved in starting to learn Thai.
A lot of repetition, but Jom kept everything interesting and fun as well.

It is overall quite challenging, but it seems the Mind Your Language Team has the experience and the tools to push the students forward.

It’s like being trained by a sports coach – Reviewed by Brian Balamut

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

I completed the two week intensive course for learning to speak Thai with teacher Jom. It was a great experience and I wish I had done it earlier, since it opens up a lot more opportunities for speaking and practicing Thai. In just two weeks I learned to hold basic conversations with people about common subjects like food, work, navigation, etc and it was useful from the first day. And learning how to ask about the language (translations and meaning) is great since now I’m always learning new words and phrases from people. Jom is a great teacher and really focuses on pronunciation which can be really tricky for non native speakers. His repetition method is intense and effective, I really liked that style of teaching. It’s like being trained by a sports coach. And now when I learn a new word I repeat it over and over until my Thai friends get annoyed hah. But it’s nice being able to pronounce things decently enough so people don’t laugh at you (most of the time). I highly recommend this school and the intensive course with Jom.

After the first session I came out with a big smile on my face – Reviewed by Ben de Jongh

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Although I had visited Thailand several times I had no ambition whatsoever to learn the language. Thai sounded too alien to me and I was convinced I would never be able to speak or understand any of it apart from the ubiquitous kop khun krap and sa bai dee.

Now that I am retired and can stay in Thailand for longer periods of time I felt the obligation to get to know more of the language and finally took the courage to step into the office of Mind Your Language in Bophut at Koh Samui.
I registered for the 1 day a week intensive course, as I really wanted to make an effort to at least master more of the daily greetings and be able to use some useful phrases for daily life like ordering food, introducing myself, counting and so forth. This particular course only took me five days and had a huge impact.

To my surprise after the first session I came out with a big smile on my face feeling great already being capable of speaking more Thai than I would have thought possible. I felt really stupid not having taken this up much earlier.
It would have been so helpful for me and respectful to the people of Samui to be able to speak more of their language. If I want, and I surely would like to, I can take five more courses to add to my knowledge. The staff at Mind Your Language is very passionate. They see it as their personal mission to teach you Thai and introduce you to their culture a bit at the same time. They really want you to get it.

Based on decades of experience Jom Nawa, one of the teachers and founder of this renowned language institute, developed the efficient T.M.C. learning method. A great way to memorise words and sentences with more ease. For instance it took me some effort pronouncing specific words the correct way, especially the ones with the difficult ‘ng’ sound at the beginning. But it worked. The T.M.C. method is explained and reviewed by fellow classmates on the website of Mind Your Language.

From the start of the course you quickly learn to speak more and more Thai in a fun and friendly atmosphere. With English explanation whenever needed. Very basically initially, memorising and pronouncing words by repeating them out loud over and over again, and playfully getting deeper into the language structure.

And look at me now. Astounding my friends and family with my Thai conversation, still a bit limited of course. And at the same time becoming more and more alert to what Thai people are saying amongst each other. I learn from them as well and feel proud when I can gently mix into their conversation. Boosting my enthusiasm to go full force during the next course.

I had a great experience learning my first tonal language – Reviewed by Alsu Sabirova

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

I had a great experience learning my first tonal language at Mind Your Language school in Koh Samui. The whole process from emailing and getting the course information till my last class went so smooth. When I knew my exact dates for a 1-month trip to Thailand, I sent an email to the school with an information request. Sharon replied almost momentarily with a very detailed explanation of dates, courses and availability. I decided to take a conversational Thai course. I also took an Intermediate level of Italian to practice it before my trip to Italy this summer.
My first day at school was filled with lots of joy and loooots of new information 🙂 I was given a book that was written specifically for the course. It was easy to understand and follow. Our Thai teacher, Sheeda, was super friendly, very articulate and knowledgable. It was easy and fun learning with her!
Even though Italian wasn’t new to me, the course with Chiara and Marco was amazing! I got to practice my favorite language with 2 wonderful teachers. Every class was filled with culture learning, games and constant interaction between the teachers and the students.
I really feel like I should have stayed in Thailand for another month only to be able to continue my classes at the Mind Your Language School 🙂 I’d like to thank the school team for my great experience!

I have had incredible results – Reviewed by Anthony James

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

I found the methods used by the team at Mind Your Language to be easy to understand, great fun and I have had incredible results. I not only am learning to speak Thai but I’m also learning to read and write. The teachers present the learning process in a way that makes perfect sense with the focus being on repetition, combining words to form sentences, turning questions into answers etc. I found all the teachers to have an incredible energy, passion along with a little humor which adds a relaxed atmosphere to the learning process thus making it all very easy to absorb.

All the teachers are Thai and the class sizes are kept small, so everyone is able to practice in speaking, reading and writing which helps everyone progress as a team. The class is constantly learning on a daily basis and moving forward although the teachers do focus on revision to be sure everyone is understanding what has been taught.
I highly recommend Mind Your Language as its not only given me confidence it has also helped me to understand Thai culture by being able to immerse myself in the language.
